Long distance travellers and those who spend a lot of their time working at a desk should be aware that long periods of immobility could be a danger to their health. The problem of blood clots forming and creating deep vein thrombosis can prove to be fatal – this occurs if the clot travels through the bloodstream and stops the lungs and heart from working efficiently.

According to a report published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, it is very important to treat the condition as soon as possible, because nearly half of victims die without treatment. The solution is to keep active in short and frequent bursts – flexing the legs, not staring at the screen for too long and getting up to stretch on an hourly basis are all good ways to prevent this illness.
