Millions of people who suffer from back pain are to be given the right to demand free acupuncture on the NHS under new guidance. GPs will be told to offer their patients Acupuncture treatment as an alternative to conventional remedies such as exercise.

Acupuncture treatments costing up to £400 are to be offered to patients with this type of problem.
It is estimated that one in three people suffer from lower back pain every year, while one in 15 consult their GP about it. Research in the USA found that 60 per cent of patients given acupuncture for back pain felt better a year after treatment, compared with 40 percent of those who were not given treatment.
